Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to making Guiden accessible to all learners

Effective Date: May 17, 2026
ℹ️
Color Coded Kids LLC is committed to ensuring that Guiden is accessible to students, teachers, and administrators of all abilities. We believe that every child deserves equal access to educational technology, regardless of disability status.

1. Our Accessibility Commitment

Guiden is designed and developed with accessibility as a foundational requirement, not an afterthought. We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and to comply with applicable accessibility laws including:

  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. § 794d) — applicable to educational technology that may be acquired or used by federally funded institutions
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III — public accommodation obligations for web-based services
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) — ensuring technology does not create barriers to students with disabilities receiving a free appropriate public education
  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA — our technical conformance target

2. Current Accessibility Features

2.1 Visual Design

Color ContrastText and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text
Text SizingText is rendered in relative units (rem/em) and scales appropriately with browser font size settings up to 200%
Color IndependenceStatus information (assignment status, grades) is conveyed through text labels and icons, not color alone
Focus IndicatorsInteractive elements display visible focus indicators for keyboard navigation
Reduced MotionAnimations respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query where implemented

2.2 Keyboard Accessibility

The core platform navigation and functionality is designed to be operable via keyboard:

  • All interactive elements (buttons, links, form fields) are reachable via Tab/Shift+Tab navigation
  • Modal dialogs trap focus appropriately and return focus upon close
  • Chat input supports Enter to send and Shift+Enter for new lines
  • Skip navigation links are provided to bypass repetitive navigation

2.3 Screen Reader Compatibility

We target compatibility with major screen readers:

NVDA + ChromePrimary testing combination for Windows
JAWS + ChromeSecondary testing for Windows enterprise environments
VoiceOver + SafariPrimary testing for macOS and iOS
TalkBack + ChromePrimary testing for Android mobile

Semantic HTML elements are used throughout. ARIA roles, labels, and descriptions are applied to custom interactive components. Form fields have associated labels. Error messages are programmatically associated with their fields.

2.4 Chat Interface Accessibility

The AI chat interface — a core feature of Guiden — includes:

  • ARIA live regions to announce new bot messages to screen reader users without requiring page reload
  • Message history scrollable and navigable via keyboard
  • Send button labeled and focusable independently of the textarea
  • Typing indicator announced to screen reader users

3. Known Limitations

⚠️
We are a small team actively working to improve accessibility. The following known limitations exist as of the effective date of this statement. We are committed to resolving these issues.
Chart and Graph AccessibilityAnalytics charts (built with Recharts) do not currently have full data table alternatives for screen reader users. We are implementing accessible data table fallbacks.
Complex Modal Focus ManagementSome multi-step modal wizards (e.g., assignment creation) have known focus management issues on older screen reader versions. Working fix in progress.
Mobile Touch Target SizeSome filter pill buttons on mobile may be below the WCAG 2.5.8 (AA) minimum touch target size of 24x24px. Being addressed in next design iteration.
PDF ExportsWe do not currently offer PDF exports. If introduced, they will be tagged PDFs.
Third-Party ContentContent generated by the AI tutor may occasionally produce formatting that is not optimal for screen readers. This is an inherent limitation of generative AI.

4. Assistive Technology Accommodations

If you or a student in your care requires a specific accommodation to effectively use Guiden, we are committed to working with you. We can provide:

  • Alternative text descriptions of visual analytics for students with visual impairments
  • Extended session timeouts for students who require additional time
  • Data exports in accessible formats for offline review
  • Custom interface adjustments in coordination with School Partners for students with documented IEPs or 504 Plans

Contact us at accessibility@colorcodedkids.com to discuss accommodation needs. We respond within 5 business days.

5. IDEA and IEP Considerations

For students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans, we recommend that School Partners:

  • Review the accessibility features and limitations described in this statement before deploying Guiden for students with disabilities
  • Contact us before deployment to discuss any specific accommodation requirements documented in a student's IEP or 504 Plan
  • Ensure that their use of Guiden's AI-generated grading is consistent with any IEP accommodations that modify grading or assessment practices
⚠️
AI-generated grades are assistive tools. Schools using Guiden for students with IEPs must ensure that teacher review of AI grades accounts for any assessment accommodations specified in the student's IEP. AI grading does not automatically apply IEP accommodations.

6. Ongoing Accessibility Work

Accessibility at Guiden is an ongoing program, not a one-time project. Our commitments include:

  • Conducting automated accessibility scans with every code release using tools including axe-core
  • Performing manual screen reader testing for all major feature releases
  • Including accessibility review in our design process for all new features
  • Publishing an updated Accessibility Statement when our conformance level materially changes
  • Responding to all accessibility feedback within 5 business days

7. Feedback and Contact

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of Guiden. If you encounter a barrier, please tell us:

Emailaccessibility@colorcodedkids.com
Subject Line"Accessibility Feedback"
IncludeThe page or feature where you encountered the barrier, the assistive technology you are using (if any), and a description of the barrier
Response Time5 business days for acknowledgment; we will provide a substantive response or timeline within 10 business days

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights at ocr.ed.gov or the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.
